India’s tea production declines by 11.41%

alt India’s total tea production January-May 2012 stood at 215.82 million kgs, which is 11.41 per cent less than the same period last year.
Total tea production of the country, the second larges tea producer of the world, in 2011 was 243.62 million kgs.
The production was down by 27.79 million kgs during the first five months of the current calendar year compared to the corresponding period last year, mainly due to unfavourable weather conditions.
During the month of May this year, total tea production of the country was down 3.6 million kgs compared to same month last year.
